Ooh - Rivers Cuomo (Recorded 1992, Released 2007)

Great little vocal sketch by Weezer’s fearless leader.

Here’s a bit about it, courtesy of Weezerpedia:

The inspiration for “Ooh” came when Rivers went to the Philharmonic’s performance of Mahler’s third symphony. Rivers’ “mind was blown.” After seeing the performance, Rivers “resolved to incorporate the more complex arrangements and countermelodies of classical music in my rock songs.” Said Rivers, “So I wrote this little vocal piece as an exercise. It’s a rip-off of Smetan’s Moldau but what can you do.”

On the recording, Rivers’ fingers can faintly be heard snapping. This was done to serve as a metronome and keep his vocal takes “somewhat in line.”

Has a hymn-like quality to it that’s very wintry, so I thought it made a nice pre-Xmas post.
